We Are Still Here online movie review - Where the F^#! is Ti West when you need him...? Horrible dialog and very bad acting really sink this one... PLEASE bring back Glass Eye Pix!

Man... This is most definitely NOT the film that I read all the good reviews about. YES, it has this old-school vibe SORT OF LIKE Ti West's 'HOUSE OF THE DEVIL', Yes, it has the inestimable Larry Fessenden, the once Great guy who ran Glass Eye Pix Horror films.

Yes, I very much liked the overall idea and old fashioned story about the Haunted House and the Evil Town and why they were the way they were. BUT... I'm sorry... when the acting, writing, and directing are this BAD, it totally, completely, and irrecoverably ruins no matter WHAT great premise it has. A shame, really...

Listen, I think many of the low budget Horror films are great. I KNOW that sometimes they may have some really rough edges. Sure, fine... But, quite honestly, the acting in this by ALL concerned, and the trite, plastic lines that they were forced to say, seriously... that is completely inexcusable as far as I am concerned. And Ol' Larry should certainly the hell know better by now... I truly cannot stress this enough. Just about every line was honestly cringe-worthy. Almost NOTHING was believable about these people or ONE bloody word that they were saying. About the ONLY guy who had ANY believability at all was MAYBE Monte Markham, a LITTLE bit... Even the Glass Eye Pix film 'AUTOMATONS' which cost all of about $6,000 was better than this.

And, PLEASE, don't get me started with the unrealistic and jarring sound design. I kind of have a 'thing' about that anyway which I have mentioned a few times before. It's really a shame too, because IF the movie had just had a better director, someone who actually had a frigg'n CLUE as to how bloody AWFUL this 'dialog' was and how the people were saying it, he could have EASILY fixed it along the way and then we could probably have enjoyed a nice, old fashioned Creepy Town/Ghost Story Horror film, the way that it COULD have been.

Normally, I don't go out of my way to write bad reviews of films that I don't like. However, once in a while I do when I feel that there are GOOD reasons why it should have been better, or people are involved who should bloody KNOW better, or if the story itself is quite good and it was specifically ruined in ways that could have been avoided. Just my lowly and wretched opinion... However, in all fairness, there do seem to be people here who genuinely liked the film. Perhaps they are not as sensitive as I am about the quality of the acting or their sense of involvement or suspension of disbelief isn't totally blown away by idiotic dialog, I don't know... Like I mentioned, the IDEA and the overall story is great! But, even the very best ideas done poorly do not a good movie make, I'm afraid.

I would say that if you like a good, creepy Haunted House story and you don't really care about the characters, the dialog, or any emotional investment in the people at all, and you just want to see some sort of [email protected] Ghosts kick some @ss, well, then you might like it. But quite honestly, I personally was in so much Psychic pain trying to wade through this Gawd-Awful acting and writing, that there just wasn't anything left for me either to believe in or care about at all.

And, as a VERY sad side note... What the living HELL happened to Susan Gibney for Goodness sake and by all that is Holy...???!!! MY GOD she looked BAD! DAMN, I honestly admit that I totally and hopelessly fell in love with her in the 2 STAR TREK: TNG episodes where she played Dr. Leah Brahms... Seriously, I am crying right now at how absolutely awful she looked. I TRULY felt with all my heart that she was a total GODDESS! (and I honestly don't feel that way very often) When I first saw here behind the bar, I thought, 'Is that who I think it is...? No way! it can't POSSIBLY be her...' GEEZ...! I am SERIOUSLY depressed now...

Anyway, sorry about all the crying, but I REALLY was in love with that lovely woman! I'm also very surprised that any film that Larry Fessenden has anything to do with could POSSIBLY have been done so badly, but there it is...

Again, just to tie together what I'm trying to say here... Basically an excellent idea and premise, but directed, written, and especially acted so damn poorly that it took away any potential that the film may have had...
